Fairfleld High School head teacher Jeff Hughes believes pupils excel in smaller school communities


CELEBRATING their best ever GCSE results, Fairfleld High School is confident that it has an exciting, secure future.
Head teacher Jeff Hughes says key changes implemented over the past few years are now making a real impact, with attendance at an eight year high.
Staff, pupils and parents are determined to fight Halton Council's plans


to close the Peel House Lane school, as part of a £100 million building programme.
He said: "We are a small school with large school facilities. Our number one strength is caring teachers."
He is passionate about the benefits of smaller school communities and urges parents of primary school pupils to attend an open evening, at 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 26.

"I am sure they will be pleasantly surprised. This is a place where children feel they belong and receive more personal attention,
"The community needs to send out a strong message to the local authority that their Building Schools for the Future proposals bag serious flaws and that the Widnes community wants Fairfield to remain an option for their children.'
